Is Technology bad for you?

Ironic thing to post about, because of how my whole blog is about keeping technology safe. Any tech blogger will most likely say "yes, it's good!" while others may push back saying "video games are bad for you, they make our kids violent." The true answer though, is hard to find. Firstly, we cannot gauge well because of one concept: correlation does not equal causation. If we ask someone who accessed their phone 5 minutes ago and ask about their mood, they could be either happy or sad. If we find a trend, for example, we have a large amount of people saying that they felt sad, then the study can conclude that phones make people sad, right? Well, what if I told you the reason people were sad was that the stock market crashed and that was the headline across the news? Now, it's not the phone that caused the sadness, rather, the headline that the stock market crashed. This is one of the main problems with technology based studies: researchers don't dig deeper into if it's the technology that causes these problems, rather just stoping at the tech itself. The second problem is preconceived biases. People still say the microwaves can cause cancer. This has been debunked multiple times by the World Health Organization. Furthermore, people say that video games make kids violent. However, since violent video games were introduced, crime rates have gone down. So in theory we should all be playing violent video games. (Correlation does not equal causation here, I'm just trying to motivate a point.) It's really hard to determine if tech is bad for you when these preconceived notions get in the way, as it would require deep, extensive time and resources in order to truly determine it. Overall, we can't just say that "all tech is bad", its more of a gray area that needs to be uncovered.
